“Abhidheya”- The methodology to

re-establish the lost relationship

The “Devotion” is the love of the highest order with the supreme personality Shri Krishna. This devotion is eternal and immortal. The devotee transcends the barrier of mortality forever. After the attainment of this devotion, the devotee abandons all material as well as spiritual desires. He does not repent for anything. He does not rejoice in anything. He envies no one. He ceases to make plans. The sixth sutra of Narad Bhakti Sutra says " Yaj gyatva matto bhavati, Sthabhdho bhavati” , atmaramo bhavati. points out the immense importance of scriptural knowledge. This philosophical knowledge, scriptural knowledge rescues us from catastrophe, chaos, and crises. But mere knowledge does not help because we tend to forget at the time of need. Unless we have constant contemplation of the scriptural knowledge, it is of no use. The scriptural knowledge is elaborate, but what we need is quite limited and simple.

For re-establishing the relationship, we have to do nothing, we have to only believe and take a resolve with conviction. The celebrated Russian writer 'Leo Tolstoy' has a nice story in one of his celebrated novels. There was a great landlord. He had only one son and because a lot of the affection showered on him from childhood, the son had become wayward. Once the great landlord was upset with the wayward behaviour of his only child and he struck a blow on his face. That son felt insulted and ran away from home. He went to a distant town, initially, it was a very difficult time for him. But he started earning by doing some menial jobs. As time passed, he earned a lot of property, he amassed a great fortune and thought, 'My father, what he was thinking of himself, when he drove me away from home? See, I am capable of doing everything now. It is time that I show my father that I am so capable.' When one attains youth, pride is natural. And when he ambasses a lot of property at a tender, young age, his pride is further enhanced. Through the young man loved his father, because he was insulted, he decided, 'I should go and meet my father and I should exhibit all my capabilities before him.' So, he sat on a horse chariot and set off for his ancestral village. That rich landlord, though he was very adamant and arrogant, at the core of his heart he was tender. His only child had run away from home. He was not sure whether his son was dead or alive. With the loss of his child the landlord appreciably softened, he had gone insane. Ego melts with advancing age. He decided, 'I should search for my only son. Who is going to inherit this vast property?' On the way to the village, the son decided to take rest in a roadside inn. He was very tired and asked for dinner and rested for the night. Co-incidentally, the rich landlord who had gone insane, was in an adjacent room. Because the father had lost his child, his mind was not functioning in a normal way. Sometimes he was crying, sometimes he was scolding. All these rucks disturbed the young very much. The son called the manager of the inn. 'You are crazy. You have rascals, such crazy people in your inn and I cannot sleep. 'When the son was saying this to the manager, the father woke up. When that rich landlord listened that someone is calling me insane, rascal, vagabond, he decided, ‘I should give a fitting reply.' He opened his door and started scolding the person who was standing near him. 'What are you saying? You are talking nonsense.

What are you thinking of yourself? Are you calling me rascal, mad? You are saying I am insane.' The son intoxicated with youth and riches replied, 'Yes, I have said the right thing and you are crazy. Your mind is not functioning properly.' There was a terrible tussle between them. The son said, 'I belong to that illustrious father, who never cared for his son and drove me away from home. I belong to that illustrious father, I care little for you.' When the poor father heard this, he could not control himself. Tears welled up in his eyes, his heart melted and he stretched his hands. 'O my dear son'. The son thought, 'This person is crazy. A moment ago, he was rebuking me and now he has opened his hands to embrace me.' The son ran away from the scene to avoid an ugly incident. The poor father realized this and said, 'O my dear son, I am that fateless, unfortunate father. I am the person that drove you away from home and with that great loss, I have been upset. My mind is not working properly. I was so much attached to you. How can I live without you? When the son listened to this all his anger vanished in no time and the son came to his father and embraced his father very intensely. The two started crying intensely and all the enmity vanished in no time. The moment the father realized he is my son, the son realized he is my unfortunate father, all the bitter enmity vanished in no time. In the same way, the moment we realize he is our father, mother, everything, and we owe all relationships only to him, all our worries will come to an abrupt end and the bliss which we are seeking will be attained for eternity.

The Rig Veda emphasizes the idea that our thoughts are always being observed and registered. It suggests that every moment, our thoughts and intentions are being monitored by both the Spiritual master (Guru) and Shri Krishna (The Supreme God), who reside within our hearts. In order to receive their grace, it's important that our thoughts align with the conditions conducive for their blessings.

We all know God is omnipresent but none of us admit at the core of our heart. The moment we feel, and we start believing the omnipresence of God, our work is finished. We have knowledge but we have not faith, we have no conviction, we lack resolve. So mere knowledge will not help, knowledge should be with conviction, should be with firm faith. Therefore, we conclude that scriptural knowledge is indispensable.
